Photos of mixing Making Mirrors

2011-09-01 19:20 by Wally

People with eyes that look at things

Check out some photos of an early mixing session from Making Mirrors, shot by my friend Alain Bouvier.

Andy, Wally and Franc can see the sounds!

Francois Tetaz, Andy Stewart and I were at Andy's studio The Mill, in Gippsland, VIC, working on his lovely old Neve desk (and Pro Tools)

Studio assistant: Rupee the labrador

Tash Parker: Waking Up

2010-11-18 21:19 by Wally

Over the last year and a half I've been helping the lovely Tash Parker with the recording of her debut album Waking Up. I sang on some songs, played drums and percussion and produced a couple of songs. Tash is releasing the record independently on her own label Little Buildings and I reckon it's an absolute gem

Here are a couple of tracks from the record:

Not Unprepared by TashParker

I Take The Blame by TashParker

The beautiful cover artwork, by Kat Kallady, looks like this:

Check out more at Tash's website, or on her iTunes page. Tash will be supporting my shows at the National Theatre in Melbourne early next year too. Brilliante!

The Basics' live album

2010-11-18 20:58 by Wally

At the start of this year The Basics (Kris Schroeder, Tim Heath and I) recorded a rollicking live show we played at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club. It took a while to mix the record throughout the year (at Abbey Road, mind you...so it was worth the wait), and it's taken me even longer to blog about it, but we released it for free online a couple of months ago. Check it out, and download it totally gratis, here

We also put it out as a special double-LP vinyl package with extra tracks. Look out for that in good record stores around Australia (or get it on mail-order/import from here). The cover looked like this:

The Basics- self-titled

We've been playing in The Basics for almost 10 years now, and people often said there was an energy to the band when playing live that was impossible to put on record. We reckon this live album gives you as close an impression as you're likely to get...so check it out!

The Basics will be taking an indefinite break as I get into releasing and touring new Gotye music, so you've got a solid slab of time to learn all the lyrics ;)

Limited Edition Learnalil 7" thru Neon Gold

2009-08-06 11:03 by Wally

As you may know, I wasn’t able to find a physical release for my last record in the United States. But indie label Neon Gold has offered perhaps a cooler opportunity for my first Stateside release: a 300-unit limited edition 7″ vinyl pressing of Learnalilgivinanlovin’. The B-side is a remix by those impossibly touted dance popsters Passion Pit, and it fairly stomps. The beautiful artwork: FRAUGRAU

Get in quick (I will…I haven’t received a copy myself as yet). It’s released on August 17, but you can pre-order through the Neon Gold Shop if you’re in the US, or from Pure Groove for the rest of the world.

Read the lovely blog about the release from Neon Gold here

Hottest 100 Of All Time

2009-07-14 11:09 by Wally

77!

All of time and space

My favourite comment on Triple J’s page:
Pinky- “Gotye? is there really a place for a bloke with a laptop and a drumkit in this list?”.

My response: “I also have a kazoo”

But seriously, I’m not sure what stock I can take in a list of top songs that doesn’t include:

Always thought it had more raw power than Teen Spirit
